The T Level in Education and Childcare will give students the knowledge, skills and behaviours in a broad range of topics such as child development, safeguarding and special educational needs, as well as learning about the role of families and support agencies.

What courses can I do after this? 

The Diploma carries a maximum of 168 UCAS points at A*.  This would enable students to apply for a university course in a relevant area, for example an Early Years Teaching Degree.

What jobs can I get? 

Having a Level 3 could lead to a variety of jobs including:
• A practitioner in a day nursery or pre-school,
• Becoming a childminder, or nanny,
• Becoming a practitioner in a nursery school or reception class in a primary school,
• Working on the cruise ships as a youth worker,
• Working abroad as youth reps for travel companies.
 

What do I need to apply

To do this course you should have... 

You will require a minimum of five GCSEs at Grades 9 - 4, including English and Maths.  This may also need to include a Grade 4 in Science if you are interested in studying Primary teaching.  Alternatively, successful completion of a relevant Level 2 qualification and to have achieved a Level 2 Functional Skill in English and Maths.

What about work experience? 

Weekly placement with regular block weeks, working across early years settings in schools.

Course Content 

 In class you will be working on the theory behind topics such as Child Development from 0 – 19 years, Children’s Health and Well-being, Health & Safety, Play and Learning, Understanding Children’s Additional Needs, Preparing for School, and Partnership Working.  You will also be required to complete observations on the children in your placements and plan learning opportunities for children.


You will be required to complete a minimum of 750 placement hours across a variety of age groups within two settings across 2 years.
You will be taught in class by subject specialists and there will also be speaker’s from outside agencies who will be invited into the class to discuss various aspects of early years care and education in order to enhance your knowledge so that you will be able to complete your assignments to the best of your ability.

The course is assessed through set homework, exams, an employer set project and formal observations in placement.

More about the course 

This is a vocational course with a high emphasis on practical application during placements and extensive written theory work when attending college.  Assessment of work experience is an important part of the programme and is carried out in a variety of work place settings with different age groups in Schools, Nurseries, Pre-schools, Children’s Centres, Childminders and families.
Students will be required to wear a college placement T shirt, black trousers and appropriate footwear whilst on placement.  Please note that this course is subject to a satisfactory DBS check.
