In celebration of 150 years of women in education, the University of London held a month of ‘conversations’ around the world on the subject of women, higher education and equality in the workplace and last week Bournemouth & Poole College joined the discussion.

Bournemouth & Poole College aims to boost the care industry by offering a new nursing associate apprenticeship in partnership with Bournemouth University.
Applications are now open for the first intake of nursing associate foundation degree as part of the apprenticeship level 5 starting in February 2019. Students on the fully-funded course will be taught how to work within a support role to deliver effective, safe and responsive nursing care in a range of settings including hospitals, care homes and hospices.

Last weekend, the College’s Greenpower Team competed in the International Final at the Rockingham Motor Speedway. Following their successful race at the Castle Combe circuit in September, where they finished quickest kit car, the team were highly motivated to impress in the season finale.

The College’s Hairdressing and Barbering students were treated to an inspirational workshop on how to deliver Lee Stafford’s Vintage Tong Recipe by Extreme Hair Wars judge Martyn Holmes. Along with witnessing his skills in action, Martyn invited the students to get involved in his demonstration on a live model. Later in the afternoon he worked with students in the college’s Flaunt Hair salon as they put their learning to the test re-creating the look.

The College’s Greenpower team has achieved some outstanding results in the last few weeks. The team has raced in competitive heats around both the Dunsfold Park aerodrome (better known as the original Top Gear track!) and the prestigious Castle Combe circuit in Wiltshire.
At the Dunsfold event on 9th September, the team’s driver Finn Burns, a second year apprentice at Cobham Wimborne, recorded an impressive 12th place finish in extremely gusty conditions.
