Bournemouth & Poole College scoops award at House of Commons ceremony

Bournemouth & Poole College is celebrating after picking up a UK Gold Centre award at the International Association of Book-keepers’ Finance and Small Business Awards ceremony, held in the House of Commons.

The awards event attracted educational institutions and organisations from right across the globe.

Malcolm Trotter, Chief Executive of the IAB, said: “Bournemouth & Poole College has demonstrated consistently high standards of performance and was awarded the title for its outstanding achievements with regards to its students studying for IAB qualifications”.

Hair and Beauty students at The Bournemouth & Poole College had more reasons than most to focus on the X Factor contestants this year.

One of the former students at the college, Christchurch-born Aaron Carlo was the man putting all the glamour and style into their looks.

It's been a few years since Aaron, 30, finished his training at the college and the salon where he first learned his skills, Tony Hair in Christchurch. He has built a brilliant reputation as a session stylist for glossy magazine models, fashions houses and celebrities.

Congratulations to Armine Alavadjama, 29, a former Marketing student at The Bournemouth & Poole College, who has been awarded the annual Bournemouth University Rosemary Pope Award for most outstanding student from a BU partner organisation.

Armine, who is originally from Latvia, received her BA Honours Degree in Marketing Communications from the University Vice Chancellor John Vinney at a ceremony last month. She was in good company as journalist and broadcaster Kate Adie and Dame Annette Brooke both received Honorary Degrees at the same time.

Talented Ben applies gloss finish in national painting and decorating contest

A talented apprentice from Dorset has clinched a prestigious national title for young painters and decorators.

Ben Deer was named Crown Trade Apprentice Decorator of the Year at a major industry event last week. The 22-year-old, from Bridport, beat off stiff competition from some of the best young talent in the country to land the £1,000 first prize. And the Bournemouth and Poole College student, who works in the family business JW Deer, run by dad James, says winning the contest is the perfect start to his career.
