Three Bournemouth & Poole College mature students have been recognised for their outstanding research ability in sciences by the Royal Society of Chemistry.

All three, James Dakers, Pete Jackson and Harriet Rodger have recently gone on to study in their chosen fields at different universities.

For James Dakers it means a long trip north to Glasgow University to study for a Degree in Aeronautical Engineering. James is already employed by Superior Seals at Ferndown.

Bournemouth & Poole College apprentice carpenter Will Spriggs has had a busy week away from the construction site. Will, who is currently in the second year of his apprenticeship with Poole-based chartered builders, Greendale Construction Limited, recently gave a speech at the Houses of Parliament as part of the CITB’s ‘I’m backing apprenticeships’ launch.

Swissport, the global airline support service company, has linked up with The Bournemouth & Poole College to create a training academy for new recruits to the industry. It’s the first of its kind in the South and the college recruits were given a rare glimpse of life behind the scenes at the airport.

Swissport provides ground support services to all passenger flights in and out of the airport, which is currently about 450 flights a month. It is responsible for baggage, check-in, boarding, loading and even aircraft cleaning duties.

A formal opening ceremony at The Bournemouth & Poole College’s new flagship teaching facility at the North Road site was held this week. The college were thrilled to welcome back film and stage actor, and former Performing Arts student, Matthew Flynn to cut the ribbon and officially open the new building.

Local dignitaries and VIPs were invited on a lively tour of the superb £12m building at the heart of the college - home to a new theatre, science laboratories, a Learning resource centre, a Digital Media Suite, 44 new teaching spaces and more.

Congratulations to Jack Wieland and Hannah Bastable at The Bournemouth & Poole College. They are hailed as the college’s Exceptional Students 2015 and were recognised at a glittering ceremony at plush Royal Bath Hotel in Bournemouth.
