Congratulations to Armine Alavadjama, 29, a former Marketing student at The Bournemouth & Poole College, who has been awarded the annual Bournemouth University Rosemary Pope Award for most outstanding student from a BU partner organisation.
Armine, who is originally from Latvia, received her BA Honours Degree in Marketing Communications from the University Vice Chancellor John Vinney at a ceremony last month. She was in good company as journalist and broadcaster Kate Adie and Dame Annette Brooke both received Honorary Degrees at the same time.
Armine said: “It’s a great honour to win this award in memory of a woman who was a fantastic teacher and it reflects on all those excellent teachers at The Bournemouth & Poole College who have helped me along the way.
"My time at Bournemouth & Poole College was so valuable to me and it has given me the inspiration to try to reach my full potential in the exciting world of marketing".
Armine spent a year as a Marketing Assistant with LV Liverpool Victoria at its headquarters in Westbourne, and she hopes that the experience will be the launch-pad for a successful career.
Her tutor at the college, Bradley Lansdale, said “Armine deserves this recognition for her dedication and commitment. It’s very pleasing that our students receive such recognition when they move on to university and it shows that they're well equipped for the challenge".
Rosemary Pope was a Professor of Education at Bournemouth University. She had a professional background in nursing and became a key member of the strategic team at Bournemouth University leading the academic development of education at the university, which meant investing in new academic areas, as well as extensive staff restructuring. She died in 2008 and the award is in memory of the valuable contribution she made to Bournemouth University.
