What courses can I do after this?
The Pearson BTEC Higher National qualification in Applied Sciences is aimed at students wanting to continue their education through applied learning and who wish to pursue or advance their career in Applied Sciences or related fields.
The course provides opportunities for students to enter or progress in employment in the Applied Sciences, or progress to year 2 in higher education qualifications such as an Honours degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Forensic Science, Food Technology, Polymers or a related area.
What jobs can I get?
After completing a Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate you can also progress directly into employment. A range of careers is available as Laboratory Technician, Research Technician, Technical Support Chemist / Biologist, Quality Support Technician, Manufacturing Technician, Science Technician, Technologist, Instrumentation Technician and Product Development Technician. The qualification is also designed for job roles in a range of supervisory or lower management roles in Applied Sciences.
What do I need to apply
To do this course you should have...
BTEC Applied in a Science related subject minimum MMP (equivalent to 64 UCAS points) or 2 A-levels (D or above) in a Science related subject – every application is considered on an individual basis.
Applicants should also have five GCSE grades 9-4 (A*-C) or equivalent including Science, English and Maths.
We will also consider applicants who have passed a Kitemarked Access to Higher Education course (equivalent to 80 UCAS points).
If you do not have the standard entry requirements but have relevant work experience or an alternative qualification you may still be eligible for the course.
You may be required to attend for an interview or assessment.

Costs
The majority of students will be able to access a Tuition Fee Loan from Student Finance England to pay their HE Course Fee.
Self-funding students may pay in 3 instalments in September (25%), January (25%) and April (50%).

Scientific data handling approaches and techniques
Regulation and Quality in the Applied Sciences
Managing Scientific Projects
As well as the opportunity to complete units to specialise in your desired Science related pathway - Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Forensic Science, or Food Science, Technology & Nutrition
