Engineering and Technology skills attain Premier League status

The talent of Engineering and Technology students at The Bournemouth & Poole College has been acknowledged at a special awards ceremony, held at the home of Premier League football team, AFC Bournemouth.

The students ,whose work in 2014 was seen as a real inspiration in the fields of Science Technology Maths and Engineering (STEM), including Marine and Motoring engineering, were presented with their awards from the College’s departing Vice Principal, Sharon Collett.

Sharon has been appointed as Principal of City College Brighton and Hove and this awards ceremony was one of several swansong activities on behalf of The Bournemouth & Poole College community.

Among the awards presented was one for Women in STEM; the Heritage Shield for excellence and performance in HE Electronics; the HE Robotics Team Challenge (pictured), Student of the Year, Apprentice of the Year, and the Lymington Precision Engineering Shield for Level 3 Engineering.

Mark Loose, Head of Engineering at The Bournemouth & Poole College, said 2014 had been an excellent year in which the success rate had increased 19 per cent across the board.

Mark said: “The event also helped to highlight the high calibre of businesses such as Lymington Precision Engineering which work so closely with the College’s engineering departments to inspire the next generation of engineers.”
