Congratulations to former Bournemouth & Poole College student Jake Wilson, whose skill and commitment in the world of carpentry has been recognised by the profession’s leading body.
Jake, 19, from Broadstone, has excelled in The Institute of Carpenter’s Regional Fine Craft Award for 2015. He won the Southern Regional competition and also came 4th nationally for his work on a kitchen drawer front made in European Redwood.
Jake now works for the Wimborne based company Churchview Joinery, but trained for three years as a bench joiner to Level 3 at the college.
Said Jake: "I had a great time at the college. The tutors are excellent and really inspiring and I’d recommend the experience to anyone who fancies a career in wood and carpentry. I’d like to thank everyone there for their help and for Churchview for taking me under their wing.”
Stephen Penny, Jake’s tutor and mentor at the college’s Fulcrum centre, said:
“The award is fully deserved. Jake has always been focused and enthusiastic and an inspiration to his peers.”
Jake also won the Skillbuild Competition in Joinery last year and won The Bournemouth & Poole College award for the best joiner. His future looks assured in this exciting and expanding industry.
