Public services students at The Bournemouth & Poole College have won the Challenge Cup at the national Pier Cellars Challenge, which was held at the Royal Navy base in Torpoint.
The team, who are currently studying on BTEC level two and three in public services at The College, took part in a range of challenges before being announced as the winners. The Challenges were designed to test the endurance of the students both physically and mentally through a number of activities including a 10k orienteering run around Rame Head.
Held twice a year, the competition is open to other colleges in the south west region offering public services courses.
Alan Card, public services lecturer at The Bournemouth & Poole College, said: ‘‘I am so proud of what our students have achieved. I was immediately impressed by how they showed real determination to complete each challenge to the best of their ability.
‘‘This is a fantastic event for The College to take part in as not only does it give students an insight of what a Naval career would involve, it also teaches invaluable teamwork and leadership skills. This is an excellent example of how the 'outdoor classroom' can be used effectively to develop skills and character.’’
