The College’s Greenpower team has achieved some outstanding results in the last few weeks. The team has raced in competitive heats around both the Dunsfold Park aerodrome (better known as the original Top Gear track!) and the prestigious Castle Combe circuit in Wiltshire.
At the Dunsfold event on 9th September, the team’s driver Finn Burns, a second year apprentice at Cobham Wimborne, recorded an impressive 12th place finish in extremely gusty conditions.
The following week the team were highly motivated to impress College Principal Diane Grannell as well as the Director of Learning for Engineering, Mark Loose, who both attended the event and they did not disappoint!
Around Castle Combe the team saw another hugely impressive drive from a Cobham apprentice, this time debutant Rebecca Hockey. Driving efficiently and consistently, Hockey not only guided the team to another 12th place finish, but ensured the team had comfortably the fastest kit car participating in the 16-25 (Formula 24+) category, finishing a full four places ahead of their closest competitor.
Buoyed by these results, the team are looking forward with confidence to the International final to be held at the Rockingham motor speedway circuit near Corby, Northamptonshire on October 5th-6th. Make sure to wish them luck!
