The BPCSU Volunteering week was a huge success with over 1000 students taking part over the week. Students were able to take part in First aid sessions from the British Red Cross where they were taught valuable lifesaving skills. This also enhanced their CV to be more attractive to volunteering organisations. Students were able to create a pledge, in which they agreed to volunteer over the next year.
The college employability team had a busy week in the hubs at both North Road and Lansdowne looking at students’ CVs in order to give advice on the types of experience volunteering organisations are looking for.
The Student First website also hosted information and recourses for students including videos from local organisations, advice on getting volunteering opportunities, and a host of links to volunteering organisations' websites for students to volunteer with.
Brian Stewart, Student Engagement Coordinator said “Volunteering is a really important part of the work we do at The College. Students learn valuable skills, get experience and also make new friends. BPCSU wanted to ensure students were not only able to volunteer, but could access the information needed to get these opportunities, which is why we offered first aid courses through the British Red Cross, the employability team looking at CVs, and all the information available on Student First. Students were given the best opportunity to be able to volunteer and make a difference to their own development as well as helping others along the way.”
