Freya Crosby, Level 3 Music student at Bournemouth & Poole College, has made it to the final of the international ‘Hit Like A Girl’ music competition.
Founded in 2011, ‘Hit Like A Girl’ is an annual international contest for female drummers, percussionists and beat makers. Its aim is to showcase and encourage drumming and lifelong musicianship for girls and women, regardless of age, playing level or geographic location.
After finding out about the competition online, Freya submitted a video of her drumming to Sing, Sing, Sing by Benny Goodman, which was recorded at the College’s recording studio. All of the videos submitted for the competition were voted on by the public, with the most popular making it through to the final.
Freya said: “I have been fortunate enough to make it through to the final, and I am the only UK finalist in my age category, so will be representing the UK! The College have been very supportive with my music. They have encouraged me to push myself and try things I may not have tried myself, such as learning recording techniques and being able to spend valuable time in the College’s recording studios expanding my musical portfolio.”
Freya is the only UK entrant in her age category to secure a place in the final and be in a chance of winning some incredible prizes! Among the prizes are scholarships and performance opportunities to some of the most prestigious events and music camps in the world, including a full-tuition scholarship to Berklee College of Music’s summer program.
Now she’s secured her place in the final, Freya’s drumming will be judged by a panel of celebrity and professional drummers, with the winner announced on 29th May 2020.
