Jasmine Jackopson at the tender age of 17 has already been making an impact in the world of theatre costume design.
The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) has accepted one of Jasmine’s ‘creations’ and now she’s been given a summer secondment to the National Youth Theatre (NYT). Four thousand ambitious students across the UK applied to work at the NYT over the summer holidays. And Jasmine is one of only 64 who have been chosen.
Jasmine, from Portland, and a former pupil at All Saints Church of England School, Wyke, is currently studying costume design at The Bournemouth & Poole College’s Jellicoe Theatre.
Said Jasmine: “It’s a real thrill to win this opportunity to work with the best ‘behind-the-scenes’ theatre professionals in the world. I can’t wait. I’m enjoying designing and making theatre costumes; it allows you to be really creative. When the RSC took my design for Titania in A Midsummer Night's Dream, it made me so proud. My ambition is to work in the best theatre companies, hopefully the RSC."
Jasmine will be in London for two weeks in the summer learning from the best talent in the business.
Then it's back to her Level 3 Extended Diploma in Theatre Production Arts at the college, which will be opening its new Jellicoe Theatre this autumn.
Sarah-Jane Ash, Lecturer in Theatre Arts at the college, said: “Jasmine has a real talent and will go far. She has made us so proud. It’s an honour to be invited to the NYT and the experience will only enhance her knowledge and skills.”
